Join us as we learn about the dynamic relationship between pollinators and the natural world. Sun., April 27 is World Tapir Day and to celebrate, Zoo guests can meet Mochi and even give him chin scratches during a special tapir keeper talk. All you need to do is reserve your e-tickets in advance, and come to the tapir yard for scheduled events! This is an incredibly rare opportunity, since Mochi is one of only three mountain tapir in human care in the United States and wild mountain tapirs are critically endangered.
Event schedule is: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Informational table outside of the tapir yard, 10 a.m. Watch Mochi enjoy some tapir enrichment (weather dependent), 1:30 p.m. Keeper talk and a chance to give Mochi chin scratches (weather dependent). Cheyenne Mountain Zoo invites all ages of world class runners and families alike to Run to the Shrine, offered on the evenings of Saturday, May 17 and Sunday May 18, 2025. Run to the Shrine is a 4-mile run/walk course that curves through the Zoo, up to the Will Rogers Shrine of the Sun and back down into the Zoo. Run to the Shrine has become an annual Cheyenne Mountain Zoo tradition, and it is the only time that guests are allowed to travel up to the Shrine of the Sun by foot! In addition, Run to the Shrine is an important fundraiser for the Zoo. Registration is required. Tickets remain available for Sunday, May 18, but Saturday, May 17 is now SOLD OUT.

All ages. On the longest day of the year, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo will celebrate the longest-necked animal: the giraffe! Giraffe keepers and staff from the International Center for the Care and Conservation of Giraffe (The Giraffe Center) are throwing an event to commemorate World Giraffe Day. This annual celebration, founded in 2014 by our field partner, the Giraffe Conservation Foundation, brings global attention to the conservation of these iconic animals. Giraffe-themed activities will be in Safari Lodge, (by the new temporary giraffe feeding area), and in Encounter Africa (next to the Abyssinian ground hornbill habitat), where guests can learn about CMZoo’s giraffe herd and take direct steps to help save wild giraffe. This event is free for anyone with a ticket to the Zoo. Advance tickets are required.
